Spokane Shadow - 2014 EPLWA CHAMPIONS!
Shadow blank Wenatchee in must-win finale to capture inaugural Evergreen Premier League title

With Sound Sound winning 2-0 approximately an hour earlier in Vancouver, the Spokane Shadow kicked off the Evergreen Premier League’s final game of the season Sunday night at Spokane Falls CC Stadium needing a victory in order to claim the league’s inaugural championship. Two goals from Sam Engle and another from Mike Ramos pushed the Shadow to a 3-0 victory against Wenatchee United in the second half in a dominant performance start to finish, giving the team the opportunity to finally celebrate after a grueling title chase that never saw the Shadow take the field in first place the entire season.

Having started a week later than most and losing its first two games at home, the Shadow played catch-up for the full 2014 campaign, nabbing key draws and victories in the right places to keep the title within reach.

“I was pleased with the process. A little rough at the start with a shaky beginning, but I think we got all of our guys in and they were able to settle down so there was some consistency there,” said Shadow head coach Chad Brown. “It allowed me to be consistent with training and it allowed the guys to have some consistency which is always, in my opinion, huge in trying to win games and focus on getting better.”

As time went on the consistency and good run of form turned into an amazing streak that saw the club go unbeaten on the road and finish the year out with a 12-game unbeaten streak in which they allowed just six goals for a league-best 11 goals allowed tally for the year.

Hamer nets winner in second half to give Shadow sweep of Bremerton club

Frustrated most of the night by a WestSound side that took points off league-leading Bellingham twice, the Shadow finally broke through in the 67th minute of the contest at Spokane Falls CC Saturday evening when Graison Le found Nick Hamer for what stood as the winning tally in front of 623 fans for the 1-0 win.

The winning goal was created when Mike Ramos (Seattle U/University HS) slipped the balled to Le (Gonzaga U/Coeur d’Alene HS) in the left corner. Past his defender, the nifty little midfielder fired a los ball to the front of the six where Nick Hamer (Gonzaga U/Mead HS) slid in to knock it past the onrushing goalkeeper Jordan Hadden.

Shadow earn 1-1 draw Sunday at South Sound
Late Hamer goal gives Spokane four points on two-game road trip

Facing the 3-0-0 South Sound Shock, the Spokane Shadow came away with a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon in Tacoma, Wash. at Harry Lang Stadium courtesy of a tap-in goal from Nick Hamer with six minutes remaining.

The home side took the initial lead in the 30th minute of the contest when Micah Wenzel found Danny Minetti on the left side. Minetti curled his shot across the goal and into the far corner from a sharp angle about 15 yards out.

In the 84th minute the Shadow took advantage of the wet conditions created by a downpour in the final 20 minutes of the first half on the equalizing effort. South Sound goalkeeper Chris Kintz bobbled the ball in the box, allowing Hamer to poke it into the left corner of the goal from just a few feet out.

Seven minutes into the contest Devin Leon (CC Spokane) scored on his collegiate home turf, striking a 19-yard effort from the middle of the pitch that slightly deflected off of a Yakima defender and into the goal. Mikey Ramos made a fantastic play in the 26th minute to push the lead to two. He collected a loose ball on the left side of the box and drove squarely across the area, dancing around a couple of defenders before letting loose from about 14 yards.

A recovering South Sound defender narrowly beat Mueller to the ball, but the clearance went squarely out to the left side where Le collected the ball and beat the defender before slotting it inside the near left post past the visiting keeper Chris Kintz from 19 yards.
